Bangladesh and Tajikistan will hold their first Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) on Wednesday at the State Guest House Padma in Dhaka to strengthen bilateral ties.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks will focus on labour migration, visa facilitation, trade, investment, education and remittance cooperation.
The initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to expand overseas employment opportunities beyond the Middle East.
Tajikistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Idibek Kalandar, who arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday, is also scheduled to meet Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam.
Officials said the FOC will discuss nine proposed agreements and MoUs, with at least two expected to be signed.
The proposed areas include cooperation in diplomacy, technology, trade, education, culture, industrial investment and visa facilitation.
Officials expect the inaugural FOC to deepen bilateral cooperation and create new opportunities for trade and employment.
Bangladesh and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations in 1992 and signed a Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement in 2013.
