Ex-AL MP Moshtak Ruhi arrested in Mohammadpur

Former Awami League lawmaker Moshtak Ahmed Ruhi has been arrested by Mohammadpur police in Dhaka.

Police arrested the 65-year-old former MP from a house on Iqbal Road in Mohammadpur around 5pm on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon Division Md Ibne Mizan said.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Halim said police conducted the raid based on a tip-off and brought Ruhi to the station. Legal proceedings against him are under way.

Ruhi was elected MP from Netrokona-1 (Durgapur-Kalmakanda) on an Awami League ticket in the 12th parliamentary election. He had previously been elected from the constituency in 2008.

He had remained in hiding since August 5, 2024, following the fall of the Awami League government, and faces several cases, according to reports.
