DHAKA: The government has approved 10 procurement proposals, including the import of two additional LNG cargoes and 145,000 tonnes of fertiliser, appointment of a Chinese contractor for infrastructure development at the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone, and a contractor for operation and maintenance of the Single Point Mooring (SPM).
The approvals were given at a virtual meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase held at the Secretariat on Wednesday. Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the meeting.
According to the Finance Ministry, the committee approved a proposal to import two additional LNG cargoes from QatarEnergy Trading LLC under the existing long-term government-to-government agreement. The cargoes will be purchased at a different price from the existing contract, at JKM minus $0.02 per MMBtu.
The committee also approved four separate proposals to procure a total of 105,000 tonnes of MOP fertiliser and 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from Canada, Russia and Saudi Arabia through the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under state-to-state agreements.
The total cost of the fertiliser imports will be Tk 982.61 crore.
Of the MOP fertiliser, 80,000 tonnes will be imported from Canada under two separate proposals at $383.80 per tonne, while another 35,000 tonnes will be procured from Russia at the same rate. Bangladesh will import 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from Saudi Arabia at $885 per tonne.
The committee also approved the appointment of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) to carry out several civil works under the supporting infrastructure project of the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone being implemented by Invest Bangladesh.
The project will cost Tk 3,629.96 crore.
Another proposal approved at the meeting involves appointing PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental as the contractor for operation and maintenance of the Single Point Mooring (SPM). The contract is valued at Tk 1,946.22 crore.
The committee also approved a civil works package for reconstruction of roads, bridges and culverts damaged by the 2022 floods in Sunamganj and Habiganj.
The work will be jointly carried out by Infratech Construction Company Ltd and Messrs Belal Construction at a cost of Tk 118.33 crore.
In addition, the committee approved the procurement of 10,000 tonnes of lentils through domestic tendering and one crore jute sacks in 50 packages.
Thirteen companies will supply the jute sacks at a total cost of Tk 111.86 crore.
Jaitun Auto Rice and Dal Mills Ltd will supply the 10,000 tonnes of lentils at Tk 76.89 per kilogramme, with the total cost amounting to Tk 76.89 crore.
