Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moin Khan has said that Bangladesh is keen to learn from China’s experience in areas including infrastructure development, technological innovation and large-scale digitalisation.
Speaking as the chief guest at a reception in Dhaka on Wednesday night (September 23) to mark China’s 77th National Day, Dr. Moin Khan said government-to-government cooperation alone is not enough. He stressed the need to create greater opportunities for people-to-people exchanges between Bangladesh and China.
Dr. Moin Khan said Bangladesh considers China one of its closest partners, with bilateral relations extending across trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, industry and culture. He noted that high-level exchanges between the two countries, including visits by Chinese and Bangladeshi leaders, have paved the way for major projects and agreements that continue to contribute to Bangladesh’s development.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said China supports Bangladesh’s new government, as well as Bangladesh’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also said China opposes external interference and supports Bangladesh’s greater role in regional and international affairs.
Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first visit to China earlier this year, Ambassador Yao said the visit helped elevate bilateral relations to a “Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” giving fresh momentum to the long-term development of ties between the two countries.
He said China-Bangladesh relations are currently at their strongest point in history and expressed confidence that the friendship between the two countries would continue to advance.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, political leaders, diplomats, government and private-sector officials, business representatives and journalists also attended the reception.
