Banks will remain open on Friday and Saturday to facilitate payment of registration fees for next year’s Hajj.
Bangladesh Bank has instructed the relevant branches of commercial banks to remain open on the weekly holidays to receive payments from prospective pilgrims.
The central bank issued a circular on Wednesday and sent it to the chief executives of commercial banks, asking them to ensure adequate security measures at the branches.
According to the directive, designated branches authorised to collect registration fees for the 2027 Hajj will remain open on Friday and Saturday during their regular banking hours.
Even after regular banking hours, the branches have been instructed to accept payments if prospective pilgrims arrive to deposit their Hajj registration fees.
The decision was taken following a request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The registration process for next year’s Hajj is scheduled to end on Thursday, while payments can still be made on Friday and Saturday.
