Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence has issued alerts over potential danger in several parts of the kingdom, including the holy city of Makkah, amid heightened regional tensions.
The alerts cover Tabuk in the northwest, the Red Sea coastal cities of Jeddah and Yanbu, and Taif, according to reports on Thursday.
Residents and visitors in the affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant, monitor the situation and follow official instructions. They have also been advised to avoid potentially dangerous areas unless necessary.
Authorities did not immediately specify the nature or level of the potential threat in the latest alerts.
The warnings come amid an escalation in attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities have reported missile and drone attacks targeting several cities and areas in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, Saudi air defences intercepted a drone launched towards Makkah, prompting a security alert in the holy city. The Houthis denied targeting Makkah or other Islamic holy sites.
Civil Defence has issued similar alerts in several Saudi cities as the conflict in Yemen has intensified. On September 19, warnings were issued in Riyadh and Al-Kharj over what authorities described as a hostile aerial threat.
Further instructions or warnings may be issued if the security situation changes.
