Jaima Rahman, daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has been appointed as a legal officer at the office of Dr Khalilur Rahman, president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Her name and designation appear on the official list of officials at the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
The UN describes her as a barrister with professional experience in the UK and Bangladesh in law and policy.
As a legal officer, Jaima will handle legal matters at the office of the UNGA president, according to information provided by UN officials.
The office has several Bangladeshi officials in different positions. Abdul Alim is serving as deputy chief of cabinet, while Moazzem Hossain is an adviser and administrative assistant.
Mofizul Islam is a senior adviser on information, artificial intelligence and strategic foresight, Zakir Ahmed is a senior adviser on sustainable development and climate change, and Md Rafiqul Alam Molla is a senior adviser on countries in special situations.
Jaima is the only daughter of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Dr Zubaida Rahman. She is the granddaughter of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
She studied law at Queen Mary University of London and later completed the Bar-at-Law in the UK. She also passed the first stage of the Bangladesh Bar Council’s enrolment examination in June 2026, according to the reports.
Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh’s foreign minister, was elected president of the 81st UN General Assembly session on June 2, 2026. The session opened on September 8 and will run until September 7, 2027.
