Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his Pakistani counterpart Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have stressed mutual respect, understanding and cooperation to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The two leaders held a bilateral meeting on Thursday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly at the UN Secretariat Building in New York. The meeting was part of Tarique Rahman’s scheduled bilateral engagements during his UNGA visit.
They discussed various aspects of Bangladesh-Pakistan relations, including issues of mutual interest, regional and international developments and potential areas of cooperation for the welfare of the people of the two countries.
Both sides emphasised the importance of advancing bilateral ties based on mutual respect, understanding and cooperation.
They also stressed maintaining regular communication and dialogue on issues of common interest.
The meeting came as the two countries have been seeking to expand bilateral political and economic engagement, with trade, investment and other areas of cooperation featuring in discussions surrounding Tarique’s UNGA meetings.
