Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has wished Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister and UN General Assembly President Dr Khalilur Rahman success in his tenure.
Lavrov expressed hope that the current session of the UN General Assembly would help countries work collectively to address global challenges and threats.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Khalilur Rahman in New York on September 23, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, according to a statement issued by the Russian Embassy on Friday.
The two sides discussed various issues on the Assembly’s agenda and highlighted the importance of the General Assembly as a representative forum for dialogue among states.
They also stressed the need to improve the working environment of the General Assembly and restore dialogue based on mutual respect.
Lavrov expressed hope that the session’s proceedings would be conducted professionally and remain free from politicisation.
