The Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal has expelled around 300 leaders and activists across the country in a drive to enforce organisational discipline and protect the party’s image.
The disciplinary action was taken against members accused of activities that violated the organisation’s principles. Jubo Dal also called for criminal cases to be filed against those involved and urged law enforcement agencies to take swift legal action.
Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna disclosed the information at a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday.
He said no individual or group would be allowed to use the organisation’s name to carry out illegal or terrorist activities.
“We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy to ensure that no one can tarnish the organisation’s reputation,” he said.
Munna said Jubo Dal leaders and activists had actively participated in movements for democracy and voting rights since the current committee assumed office. He claimed that 78 Jubo Dal members were killed during the July-August uprising and that the organisation had honoured the families of those killed and provided them with financial assistance.
The press conference also highlighted the organisation’s humanitarian and social activities over the past year, including medical assistance for underprivileged people, bridge construction, cleanliness drives and support for visually impaired people.
Jubo Dal General Secretary and Member of Parliament Mohammad Nurul Islam Nayan said the current committee is working to make the organisation stronger and more dynamic.
He added that Jubo Dal would expand its efforts to create employment opportunities for young people in coordination with government initiatives.
Also present at the press conference were Vice-President Rezaul Kabir Pol, Joint General Secretary Billal Hossain Tarek and Organising Secretary Kamruzzaman Jewel.
