The father of child rape and murder victim Ramisa Akter has met Attorney General Mohammad Ruhul Quddus Kajal to seek an update on the progress of the case and the next stage of its judicial proceedings.

Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, met the attorney general at his office at the Supreme Court on Saturday afternoon.

Molla said the case is currently pending before the High Court Division for hearing of the death reference and appeals. He met the attorney general to learn about the latest status of the case and its next steps.

During the meeting, Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kajal assured him that the government was standing by the family and that his office would play an effective role in ensuring justice in the case.

According to case documents, Ramisa, a second-grade student, was raped and brutally murdered on May 19 in a flat beside her family’s building in Section 11 of Pallabi in the capital.

Her father filed a case with Pallabi Police Station following the incident. Neighbour Sohel Rana was arrested on the same day and later made a confessional statement before a court.

After the trial, a Dhaka court on June 7 sentenced the main accused, Sohel Rana, and his wife, Swapna Khatun, to death.

The death reference and appeals filed in the case are now awaiting hearing before the High Court Division.

Ramisa’s father met the attorney general to discuss the current status of the case and the next stage of the judicial proceedings.
