A powerful and unusually early-season nor’easter battered the northeastern United States on Saturday, bringing torrential rain, strong winds, coastal flooding and widespread disruption.
New York, New Jersey, Boston and Philadelphia were among the areas affected as authorities warned of dangerous flooding and hazardous travel conditions.
The storm caused power outages affecting tens of thousands of customers, while hundreds of flights were cancelled.
Coastal communities also faced high waves and storm surge, with officials urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to weather warnings.
Wind gusts of more than 60 mph were recorded in parts of the region, while some coastal areas experienced significant flooding as heavy rain coincided with high tides.
The storm is considered unusual for September, as nor’easters are more commonly associated with the later autumn and winter months.
Authorities warned that coastal flooding could continue through multiple high-tide cycles over the weekend.
