National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has questioned who could have the audacity to engage in extortion or property grabbing at the very seat of the prime minister.
His remarks came shortly after the reported attack and vandalism at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio in Dhaka.
In a social media post on Sunday (September 27), Nahid said two allegations had emerged over the attack on Muqtadir’s studio — extortion for refusing to pay money or an attempt to seize property.
“Who could have the audacity to collect extortion money or seize property at the very seat of the prime minister?” he asked.
Nahid said that if any structure is illegal or occupied unlawfully, there are legal avenues to recover it. He questioned what the alleged actions of those in power across the country indicated when legal procedures were available.
He also alleged that extortion and land grabbing by BNP did not begin recently but had started after August 5. He accused BNP of taking control of networks previously involved in extortion and land grabbing under the Awami League and alleged that the scale of such activities had increased several times.
Nahid further criticised the government, saying seeking justice from the authorities, particularly the home minister, was meaningless. He expressed hope that the country would soon be freed from what he described as the control of extortionists.
