A group of students of Dhaka Central University (DCU) staged a protest on Sunday, displaying red cards against the appointment of Dhaka University Statistics Department professor Lutfor Rahman as the university’s vice-chancellor.

The students said they do not want a vice-chancellor from Dhaka University and marched from the Central Shaheed Minar on the Dhaka College campus to the Science Lab intersection around noon.

During the procession, the protesters displayed red cards and chanted slogans including “Break up the DU syndicate.”

After staying at the Science Lab intersection for some time, the students returned to Dhaka College.

The protesters said they had been campaigning against the Dhaka University syndicate for a long time and had worked to establish Dhaka Central University in opposition to it.

“We do not want a vice-chancellor from that university,” they said.
