India and Bangladesh are discussing a new schedule for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s proposed visit to India, with the trip potentially taking place in the third week of November, according to a report by The Times of India (TOI), citing sources familiar with the matter.

An earlier initiative for Tarique Rahman’s visit had been cancelled. However, discussions are now underway to finalize new dates, the newspaper reported, citing relevant sources.

According to the report, the talks could gain momentum after Bangladesh’s new High Commissioner to India, Asad Alam Siam, takes charge in New Delhi in the last week of October or early November.

The extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India, along with several other unresolved issues, could be among the key matters for Dhaka. Progress or a resolution on these issues may influence the final decision on the visit.

Meanwhile, Tarique Rahman recently sent birthday greetings to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who responded promptly. The exchange of messages has been viewed as a possible indication that the two sides could move more quickly toward finalizing the dates for the visit.

However, neither Bangladesh nor India has officially announced a date for Tarique Rahman’s possible visit. Both sides have so far neither confirmed nor denied the reported timeframe.
