Singapore has expressed interest in providing modern technology and technical assistance to Bangladesh to strengthen border and immigration security.
Outgoing Singaporean Chargé d’Affaires Mitchel Lee made the offer during a courtesy call on Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the Home Ministry office at Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday, according to a PID handout.
The meeting covered bilateral relations, capacity building of the Bangladesh Police, modernisation of security systems at airports and land ports, technology transfer, economic and trade cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest.
Lee said Singapore was willing to support Bangladesh in adopting modern technologies for border and immigration security and provide technical assistance in the sector.
He also said bilateral relations and trade between the two countries were continuing to expand.
Ahmed expressed hope that the appointment of a full-fledged Singaporean high commissioner to Bangladesh would be completed soon, saying it would help further strengthen bilateral relations and trade.
The minister said Bangladesh was working to establish modern, technology-based immigration and border security systems at its frontiers and airports.
He also expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would expand through joint efforts to combat extremism, police training and technology transfer.
Singapore’s incoming Chargé d’Affaires Philip Ong, Home Ministry Additional Secretary (Political and Immigration Wing) Dr Ziauddin Ahmed, and Second Secretary of the Singapore mission Dhanya Lingesh attended the meeting.
