Police detained 244 teenagers during a five-hour anti-juvenile gang operation across six police stations in Lakshmipur district on Sunday evening.

The operation was conducted from 6pm to 11pm on the instructions of the district police superintendent.

Police said 42 teenagers were detained in Lakshmipur Sadar, 21 in Chandraganj, 44 in Raipur, 37 in Ramganj, 44 in Ramgati and 56 in Kamalnagar.

According to police, the operation was launched following reports of teenagers’ involvement in various criminal activities. The detained youths are being questioned, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hossain Md Rayhan Kazemi confirmed the detentions in a press release issued Sunday night.

The release said police conducted raids in areas where complaints of harassment and disorderly behaviour by teenagers had been reported. Authorities are verifying whether those detained have any links to criminal activities.

Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Wahed Parvez said police were checking the previous records and possible criminal involvement of the detained teenagers.

He said the operation targeted areas where complaints of juvenile misconduct had been reported and added that similar drives would continue.

The issue of juvenile gangs has recently drawn renewed attention following the killing of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Aptrim in Cumilla.
