Gold prices fall again in Bangladesh

DHAKA: Gold prices have fallen again in Bangladesh, with the price of 22-carat gold jewellery dropping by Tk2,158 per bhori (11.664 grams).

Following the latest cut, the price of one bhori of 22-carat gold jewellery, including VAT, has been set at Tk230,772.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Monday. The information was announced in a notice signed by the committee chairman, Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen.

Earlier on September 26, the price of one bhori of 22-carat gold jewellery was reduced by Tk1,691. With the latest cut, the price has fallen by Tk3,849 in two successive reductions.

The new prices, including VAT, are: 22-carat gold: Tk230,772 per bhori, down Tk2,158, 21-carat gold: Tk220,391 per bhori, down Tk2,100, 18-carat gold: Tk189,248 per bhori, down Tk1,808, Traditional-method gold: Tk154,256 per bhori, down Tk1,808.

The new prices came into effect at 10am on Monday.  Silver jewellery prices have also been reduced. The price of 22-carat silver has been cut by Tk350 to Tk4,491 per bhori, while 21-carat silver is now Tk4,316, 18-carat silver Tk3,732 and traditional-method silver Tk2,799 per bhori.
