The US government has urged American citizens in the UK to remain vigilant after five people were arrested near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire over suspected terrorism offences.
The US Embassy in London said it was aware of the arrests of five people in Fairford who were suspected of planning to cause significant damage to a US military facility.
It advised US citizens to remain alert, stay aware of their surroundings and follow guidance from local authorities.
RAF Fairford is a key US Air Force base in Europe and has been used for US military operations. The base has previously been the subject of warnings from Iran.
US President Donald Trump praised British police for the arrests, saying the suspects had allegedly been planning to cause major damage to the base. He said US authorities had been monitoring the suspects and had worked with British authorities in the operation.
The arrests reportedly followed a call to police from a local farmer, who said she had seen five masked men near three white vans late at night. Police later found an operational incendiary device and chemicals in one of the vehicles.
The investigation is continuing, and authorities have not publicly confirmed the full nature or motive of the alleged plot.
