National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has said restoring law and order in Bangladesh would not be possible with the current home minister remaining in office.
Speaking at a press conference at the party office on Monday, Nahid accused Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed of failing to perform his duties and criticised his statements on various issues, including reforms.
He said the government, the prime minister and the home minister were responsible for the current law-and-order situation, claiming that the situation had deteriorated further since the BNP-led government took office.
Referring to recent incidents, including the attack and demolition at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur and the vandalism of content creator Salman Muqtadir’s studio, Nahid alleged that law enforcement agencies had remained inactive.
The home minister has separately said an initial investigation found police negligence in the Radda Clinic incident, leading to the withdrawal of the Shah Ali police station officer-in-charge and the arrest of nine suspects.
Nahid also cited incidents in Habiganj and Savar as examples of what he described as widespread disorder across the country.
