Bangladesh Bank has identified 22 online platforms as illegal for allegedly providing payment aggregator services without approval from the central bank and advised the public not to conduct transactions through them.
The central bank issued the warning in a notice on Sunday, saying its Payment Systems Supervision Department had identified the platforms operating online.
According to Bangladesh Bank, under Section 4(2) of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2024, no individual, institution or company can operate a payment system or provide payment services without obtaining a licence from the central bank.
Providing such services without a licence is a punishable offence under Section 37(1) of the law, it said.
The 22 platforms identified by Bangladesh Bank are BohudurPay, ZiniPay, PayTiller, BengaliPay, Payora BD, SohojPay BD, EasyPayWay, AK Pay, BD PAY, ShajgarPay, AsthaPay/CPay, UddoktaPay, Walletmix, BttPay, Easy Pay Automation, UniquePay BD, BD AUTO PAY, RH Pay BD, EzePay, AutoPay.Ltd, Biswasto and PipraPay.
The central bank urged people to refrain from operating, participating in or conducting transactions through the unlicensed platforms to protect their hard-earned money and avoid potential legal risks.
It also advised customers to exercise caution when using any platform that provides payment aggregator services without the required licence.
Bangladesh Bank reiterated that operating payment aggregator services without a licence is an offence under the law.
