The Special Response Battalion-2 (SRB-2) has arrested a 21-year-old man accused of leading the killing of a member of the Patali gang in Keraniganj.

The arrestee, identified as Sobuj Hossain Arman, was detained from Mohammadpur early Monday based on intelligence information, SRB said. A foreign-made pistol, a magazine and four samurais were recovered during the operation.

SRB-2 Commander and Additional DIG Noymul Hasan disclosed the information at a press briefing at the SRB media centre in Karwan Bazar around 4:30pm on Monday.

According to SRB, on September 15, Arman and several other alleged gang members entered a salon in the Arshinagar area of Keraniganj and opened fire indiscriminately before hacking Farhad, a member of the Patali gang, with machetes.

Farhad was critically injured in the attack and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, the victim’s mother, Nasima Begum, filed a murder case with Keraniganj Model Police Station.

Acting on intelligence, SRB personnel arrested Arman from Mohammadpur early Monday and recovered four samurais from his rented residence.

Based on information provided by Arman, the force later searched a temporary tin-shed used by road workers in the Katasur area of Mohammadpur and recovered a foreign-made pistol and a magazine.

SRB had earlier arrested Shah Rukh, a member of the Arman-Shah Rukh group, on August 16.

Noymul Hasan said five cases have been filed against Arman with Mohammadpur Police Station on charges including rioting, theft, attempted murder and intimidation.
