Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon visited six printing presses in Dhaka after midnight on Monday to inspect the quality and progress of printing textbooks for the 2027 academic year.
The minister visited the presses after midnight on September 28 without prior notice, according to reports.
He inspected the quality of paper, printing and the overall progress of textbook production.
The six presses were Mousumi Offset Press, Faiza Printing Press, Shaili Printers, Barnashikha Offset Printers, Sonali Web Printers and National Printers.
During the visits, Milon examined sample books and spoke with officials involved in the printing process. He stressed maintaining the prescribed standards so that students receive quality textbooks on time.
He also reportedly found irregularities at some presses, particularly the use of low-quality ink that caused images in textbooks to appear blurred and faded.
He instructed the concerned authorities not to use substandard ink in printing the books.
The National Curriculum and Textbook Board has undertaken a plan to print more than 309.2 million textbooks for the 2027 academic year, with printing now underway.
