Attack on Muqtadir’s studio, accused Mizanur arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Mizanur Rahman, 59, in a case filed over an alleged attack, vandalism and looting at a New Guinea Properties housing project in the ECB Chattar area of the capital’s Cantonment Police Station jurisdiction.

Mizanur is named as the ninth accused in the case.The incident allegedly also involved an attack on, vandalism of and looting from the studio of content creator Salman Muqtadir, located inside the New Guinea Properties project.

DB sources said Mizanur is the son-in-law of Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Mohammad Abdul Gafur, who represents Kushtia-2 (Mirpur-Bheramara).

He was arrested during a DB operation in the capital’s West Matikata area on Monday afternoon, Additional Police Commissioner of DB Md Shafiqul Islam told media.

According to DB sources, lawmaker Mohammad Abdul Gafur was present at the scene when Mizanur was arrested.

The case was filed with Cantonment Police Station on Sunday by Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan on behalf of New Guinea Properties. Thirteen people were named in the case, while another 150 to 200 unidentified people were accused.

The named accused include Shahriar Mahmud, Md Abul Kashem, Md Babul Hossain, retired Major General Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Mohammad Shahinuzzaman, Matiur Rahman, Mojibur Rahman, Nurul Islam, MK Azad, Md Mamun, Md Aslam and Munna.

Police said the investigation is underway and efforts are continuing to identify and arrest others allegedly involved in the incident. Legal proceedings against Mizanur are also underway.
