Recent rainfall has brought relief to Aman farmers in Rajshahi and Naogaon after prolonged dry weather left fields parched and increased irrigation costs.
In Charghat upazila of Rajshahi, rain has restored moisture to the soil and revived weakened paddy plants. Farmers are now busy tending their fields, hoping for a good harvest if favourable weather continues.
A Farmer of Bhatpara village said the lack of rain had dried up his field and weakened the plants, while the recent showers have reduced the need for costly irrigation.
Agriculture officials said adequate moisture is essential during the growth, flowering and grain-formation stages of Aman. They advised farmers to monitor their fields regularly and take prompt action against pests and diseases.
Meanwhile, vast areas of Naogaon have turned green with transplanted Aman paddy. Against a cultivation target of 19,070 hectares, farmers have planted around 18,500 hectares this season.
Officials said timely transplantation, proper irrigation, adequate fertiliser supplies and favourable weather could contribute to a good harvest, provided there is no major natural disaster or prolonged waterlogging.
