DHAKA: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in five districts of Chattogram Division due to a land depression over Myanmar and the adjoining northeastern Bay of Bengal, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.

In a weather warning issued at 6pm on Tuesday (September 29), the BMD said the conditions are expected to persist for the following 48 hours.

Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Chattogram may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the period. Some areas could receive 44–88mm of heavy rain, while rainfall exceeding 88mm is possible in isolated areas.

The BMD warned that heavy rainfall could cause temporary waterlogging in parts of the hilly areas of the five districts.

There is also a risk of landslides in vulnerable hilly areas due to excessive rainfall. The Meteorological Department advised people living in hilly areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
