Police recovered the body of an unidentified young man from the roadside in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Wednesday morning. The body had been covered with straw and parts of it were mauled by jackals.

Police suspect the body had been there for two to three days.

The body was recovered around 6:30am from the roadside in the Kamalpur Satbil field area of Peerpur Union.

According to locals and police, farmer Sanaullah was on his way to work in the fields in the morning when he noticed several jackals surrounding and pulling at an object beside the deserted road. As he approached, the animals moved away, and he discovered a man’s body lying there under grass and straw.

Parts of the body had been badly damaged by the jackals.

Sanaullah raised an alarm, prompting other farmers working nearby to rush to the spot. As news spread, local residents also gathered there.

Daulatpur police later arrived and recovered the body. A Crime Scene team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been called from Jhenaidah to help identify the deceased and determine the cause of death.

Police said they were investigating whether the man had been murdered and were also trying to establish his identity.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said the body appeared to be two to three days old. The face and other parts of the body had been damaged, he said, adding that efforts were underway to identify the deceased.

Kushtia Additional Superintendent of Police Delwar Hossain said locals reported that the jackals had dragged the body out from under the straw, allowing them to discover it.
