Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Wednesday reaffirmed China’s commitment to peaceful development, saying Beijing rejects hegemony, territorial expansion and spheres of influence while seeking closer cooperation with Bangladesh.
Speaking at the National Defence College (NDC), Ambassador Yao said China’s foreign and defence policies are rooted in peace and mutual respect.
“China has consistently pursued an independent foreign policy of peace. Hegemony, expansion or spheres of influence find no place in China’s dictionary,” he said.
The envoy said China is ready to deepen cooperation with Bangladesh across various sectors, including defence, to support the country’s development and strengthen the longstanding bilateral partnership.
Yao also reaffirmed China’s commitment to working with Bangladesh and the international community to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world, inclusive economic globalisation and stronger global governance through the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative.
Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to China, the ambassador described the trip as productive, saying both countries had agreed to elevate the Bangladesh-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and work toward building a Bangladesh-China community with a shared future in the new era.
He noted that China remains committed to its longstanding policy of friendship and good-neighbourliness toward Bangladesh and will continue to advance bilateral relations based on mutual trust and shared interests.
The lecture was attended by Lieutenant General Md Faizur Rahman, Commandant of the National Defence College, along with more than 100 officers from the Bangladesh Armed Forces and representatives of foreign militaries.
Following the lecture, Ambassador Yao exchanged views with participants on a range of regional and global issues, including China-US and China-India relations, BRICS, and the Rohingya crisis.
