Dengue claims 148 lives in September

Dengue claimed 148 lives and infected 43,774 people across Bangladesh in September, making it the deadliest month of the year so far, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the latest 24-hour period, six more people died from dengue and 1,948 new cases were reported, the DGHS said in a press release on Wednesday (September 30).

The figures were recorded until 8:00am on Wednesday.

Of the new patients, 212 were reported in Barishal division, 343 in Chattogram, 320 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 189 in Dhaka North City Corporation and 210 in Dhaka South City Corporation.

Khulna reported 248 new cases, Mymensingh 102, Rajshahi 211, Rangpur 99 and Sylhet 14.

With the latest figures, the country’s dengue death toll has risen to 245 since the beginning of the year.

A total of 79,620 dengue patients have been hospitalised so far this year, according to the DGHS.

Currently, 5,485 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals across the country, while 73,890 patients have been discharged after recovery.
