A 26-year-old man was shot dead and two others were injured when a group allegedly entered a house and attacked residents in Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Babu, also known as Shahidullah, son of Abdul Quader of Chowala area.

The incident occurred around 4:30pm behind Lokman Hossain Poura Secondary School in the Chowala area amid a longstanding dispute and alleged rivalry over local dominance between two groups.

Police and local sources said Shahidullah sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest during the clash and died at the scene. His body was later taken to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.

His brother Rubel, 30, and Miraj, 20, were injured in attacks with sharp weapons. They were initially taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital and later referred to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), commonly known as Pongu Hospital, in Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) of Narsingdi Ashikur Rahman said the clash stemmed from a longstanding dispute over local dominance.

“One person was killed and two others were injured in the clash. District police are taking necessary measures to keep the situation under control,” he said.

Police said further legal action would be taken after assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
