Ahmadul Kobir, Malaysia: The membership registration and life insurance fee for Bangladeshi migrant workers in Malaysia under the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board (WEWB) has been revised to Tk6,500, equivalent to RM220.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur announced the revised fee in a notice published on its Facebook page on Thursday.

According to the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board, the fee has been revised to reflect the expansion of welfare services available to Bangladeshi migrant workers and current exchange rates and market prices.

Under the board’s guidelines, Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia can register for membership either in person with assistance from the Labour Wing of the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur or through an online application.

For in-person registration, applicants must deposit RM220 into the designated bank account of the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia. They must then attach the bank deposit receipt, a copy of the passport showing its validity and a copy of the visa to the application.

The designated account is:

Account Name: Bangladesh High Commission

Account Number: 564427101748 Bank: Maybank

Workers can also complete the application online through the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board’s designated portal.

Membership provides migrant workers with access to relevant welfare services and life insurance benefits under the board’s programmes.

For information or assistance with membership registration, workers can contact the Bangladesh High Commission’s Labour Wing in Kuala Lumpur at +60147218929.
