1 October 2026 22:50 Updated: 1 October 2026 23:33

Bangladesh formally opened its embassy in Ireland on Thursday, marking a new milestone in diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The embassy has initially started its administrative functions from a temporary chancery office at Alexandra House in Dublin’s diplomatic area of Ballsbridge.

Ambassador-designate Mohammed Nore Alam assumed charge of the mission on Thursday. He is expected to present his Letters of Credence to the President of Ireland in due course.

The establishment of the resident embassy is expected to strengthen diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and Ireland and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The mission will also focus on strengthening engagement with the Bangladeshi community in Ireland, which is estimated to number around 25,000.

The embassy is making arrangements to introduce passport, visa and other consular services for Bangladeshi nationals and other eligible applicants.

The dates, procedures and other details will be announced through official channels once the services are ready.

The government expects the establishment of the resident embassy to further deepen friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Bangladesh and Ireland.
