Two officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines have been suspended following complaints of passenger harassment and delays in delivering tagged baggage on a flight from Medina to Dhaka, involving four lawmakers.
The incident occurred on Biman’s BG-338 flight, which landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:55am on Thursday.
Many passengers reportedly had to wait for hours to receive their tagged baggage and Zamzam water.
Four lawmakers of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami—Rashedul Islam Rashed, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Salahuddin Ayubi and Jahangir Hossain—submitted a written complaint to Biman’s managing director, alleging passenger harassment, failure to properly hand over baggage and negligence of duty.
According to the complaint, around 35 lawmakers were among the passengers, while most passengers had still not received their tagged baggage nearly three hours after landing.
The passengers also alleged that they were not given a proper explanation for the delay.
Biman said an initial inquiry found that operational negligence and problems during container offloading had delayed the delivery of Zamzam water to the baggage belt.
The two suspended officials are baggage in-charge Monirul Islam Pradhan and flight supervisor Saddam Hossain.
Biman said further investigation is under way and additional action could be taken if further negligence or irregularities are found.
