DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) held a free medical camp and dengue awareness campaign in Sector 7 of Uttara, Dhaka, on Friday morning.

The programme was organized at the initiative of Muhammad Selim Uddin, a member of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Amir of the party’s Dhaka North unit.

Local residents received medical services at the camp, including blood and diabetes tests, weight and blood pressure measurements, and other basic health services. Five doctors and other healthcare workers provided treatment and advice.

Leaflets containing information about dengue symptoms, prevention and what to do after infection were also distributed among residents.

Speaking at the event, Selim Uddin said public awareness and cleanliness are essential to preventing dengue. He urged people to prevent stagnant water from accumulating in and around their homes to stop Aedes mosquitoes from breeding.

He also advised residents to regularly remove accumulated water from air conditioners and refrigerators, use mosquito nets, and keep their homes, gardens and surrounding areas clean.

Selim Uddin urged people not to take medication without medical advice if they develop dengue symptoms. He advised anyone experiencing fever or other symptoms to consult a doctor.

He emphasized that dengue prevention should not be limited to periods when infections increase, but should be practiced throughout the year. He said maintaining clean homes and surroundings could play an important role in preventing disease.
