Police have detained 547 people in a three-day crackdown on juvenile gangs and youths across Lakshmipur, including 99 picked up in a five-hour drive on Thursday night.

The latest operation was conducted from 6:00pm to 11:00pm by joint teams of police from Sadar, Chandraganj, Raipur, Ramganj, Ramgati and Kamalnagar police stations.

As of Friday noon, police were verifying the identities and backgrounds of the 99 detainees and processing legal action where necessary.

Of the 547 detained over the past three days, 375 were warned and handed over to their families after verification, while 72 were shown arrested in various cases and sent to jail through court orders.

Police said the crackdown was launched following complaints of increasing juvenile gang activities, including harassment of female students outside educational institutions and clashes among youths.

Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Wahid Parvez said the campaign aimed to prevent teenagers and young people from becoming involved in criminal activities.

“Regular operations to prevent juvenile crime will continue,” he said, adding that the involvement of those detained in criminal activities would be verified before further legal action.
