Portugal returned to winning ways with a commanding 4-2 victory over Denmark in Copenhagen, despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence from the squad following his departure from the team camp amid controversy and speculation.
The reigning Nations League champions dominated from the start at Parken Stadium and took the lead in the 12th minute through Joao Cancelo. The Barcelona defender exchanged passes with Goncalo Ramos before producing a fine chip after Ramos’ initial effort struck the post.
Denmark equalised in the 23rd minute when Mikkel Damsgaard curled a superb shot into the net. Portugal restored their lead just two minutes later, with Ramos calmly finishing a counterattack to make it 2-1.
Denmark levelled again in the 53rd minute when Rasmus Højlund produced a clever chip.
Portugal, however, regained control despite coming under pressure. Vitinha headed home Bruno Fernandes’ precise cross in the 67th minute before Joao Felix sealed the victory in the 87th, finishing from Diogo Dalot’s pass.
Fernandes, wearing the captain’s armband in Ronaldo’s absence, played a key role in the victory with two assists.
Felix also scored for the third consecutive Nations League match. The win gave Portugal three victories from three group matches and strengthened their position at the top of the table with nine points.
