363 arrested in Cumilla anti-teen gang drive

CUMILLA: Police have detained 363 people in an operation against teen gangs across 18 police stations in Cumilla district.

The drive was conducted in various areas from Friday evening until late at night, police said.

According to police, the operation was part of their regular crackdown on teen gangs and targeted areas where harassment and disruptive activities by groups of teenagers had been reported. Various units of the district police, along with the Detective Branch (DB), took part in the operation.

Meanwhile, a special operation by Kotwali Model Police in different parts of Cumilla city led to the detention of 59 people, including Ratan, the alleged leader of the ‘Ratan Group’.

Senior district police officials also took part in the operation.

Police said they are verifying whether those detained were involved in any criminal activities. Legal action will be taken as necessary after the verification process, they added.

Police also said they are taking precautions to ensure that no innocent person is subjected to harassment.
