Police have detained 363 people in a special anti-teen gang operation across Cumilla district.

The operation was conducted from Friday evening until late at night in all 18 police stations of the district, according to police.

Units of the district police and Detective Branch (DB) took part in the drive under the direct supervision of Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman.

Police targeted areas where teenage gangs and groups of young troublemakers were reportedly active, including various gathering spots and crime-prone locations.

With the latest arrests, the number of people detained in five rounds of anti-teen gang operations in Cumilla has reached 2,035. In the previous four drives, 1,672 people were detained.

Police said the 363 detainees are being screened to determine whether they have links to criminal activities.

Legal action will be taken against those found involved in crimes, while authorities said they are also monitoring the process to ensure that innocent people are not harassed.

Police said the operations are being conducted regularly to prevent teenagers from becoming involved in criminal activities and that such drives will continue.

During Friday night’s operation, police also detained Mohammad Ratan, the alleged leader of the ‘Ratan Group’, a teenage gang in Cumilla.

Police said he is the prime accused in a 2022 murder case and faces several other cases, including one involving arms.
