The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has allocated Tk 9.49 crore from the FY2026-27 budget to cover the immediate costs of burial, cremation and transportation of the bodies of freedom fighters.
The allocation was made through an order issued by the ministry’s budget wing on September 29, with the funds to be released to deputy commissioners (DCs) and upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) across the country.
According to the order, the money will be drawn from the Tk 18 crore allocated for burial grants under honorarium allowances for wounded and other freedom fighters in the special operational budget for FY2026-27.
District and upazila administrations will withdraw the allocated funds through their respective accounts offices and treasuries using proper bills.
The order said the funds may be used only for the burial, cremation and transportation of freedom fighters’ bodies and for no other purpose.
All government financial rules and regulations must be strictly followed, and the concerned disbursing authorities will be held responsible for any irregularities, it said.
Any unspent amount after June 30, 2027, must be deposited into the designated government treasury account, with the ministry informed accordingly.
The ministry has instructed the DCs of all 64 districts and all UNOs to take necessary measures to implement the allocation.
Deputy Secretary (Budget) Dr Md Asaduzzaman signed the order.
