Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 420,000 yaba tablets from the Tumbro border area in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.

A special patrol team of the Tumbro Border Outpost (BOP) under Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) conducted the operation early Saturday based on intelligence, according to a BGB press release issued in the afternoon.

The team took position at Nayapara, about 100 yards inside Bangladesh from the international border. At around 4:30am, BGB personnel detected the movement of several people using a thermal imaging device.

When the patrol team moved to intercept them, the smugglers fled towards Myanmar under the cover of darkness, leaving the consignment behind.

The BGB team later searched the area and recovered three bags wrapped in lungis. The bags contained 420,000 Burmese yaba tablets, the release said.

No one was arrested during the operation.

Legal proceedings over the seized yaba tablets are underway, the release added.
