Three more people have died with suspected measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths this year to 1,125, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the total, 102 deaths were confirmed as measles-related, while 1,023 were reported among patients with measles symptoms, the DGHS said in its regular health bulletin on Sunday.
Two of the three latest deaths occurred in Dhaka during the 24-hour period from 8am Saturday to 8am Sunday.
Meanwhile, 1,300 new patients with measles or related symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country during the period.
Dhaka division recorded the highest number of admissions at 496, followed by Chattogram with 278, Sylhet 131, Barishal 128, Mymensingh 109, Khulna 75, Rangpur 64 and Rajshahi 19.
According to DGHS data, 174,149 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15. Of them, 166,908 have recovered and been discharged.
The number of suspected measles cases has reached 196,418 since March 15, including 21,748 confirmed cases, the DGHS said.
