The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance has expressed deep concern and strong dissatisfaction over the overall situation in the country’s financial institutions and banking sector.

The committee members stressed the need to ensure complete transparency, discipline and accountability in the banking sector to maintain economic stability.

They also directed the Ministry of Finance and relevant departments to present a comprehensive report at the next meeting, containing more detailed and accurate data on the current state of the banking sector, along with a practical roadmap for restoring discipline.

The decisions were taken at the fourth meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Finance of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad at the Parliament complex on Sunday afternoon.

Committee Chairman Mushfiqur Rahman presided over the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the committee reviewed progress in implementing decisions taken at its second and third meetings.

Later, the Financial Institutions Division presented a picture containing information on the banking sector.

The committee members expressed strong dissatisfaction with the overall presentation of the data, saying the information did not provide a sufficiently clear picture of the sector’s actual condition.

They sought more detailed, precise and comprehensive information to assess the banking sector properly and determine the measures required to restore discipline.
