Former shipping minister and former Madaripur-2 MP Shajahan Khan and his son Md Asibur Rahman have been shown arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over allegedly acquiring Tk 98.9 million in assets inconsistent with their known sources of income.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir granted the ACC’s plea to show them arrested in the case on Monday.
Shajahan Khan was brought before the court following an ACC application. After a hearing, the judge approved the plea, said defence lawyer Mizanur Rahman Badshah.
The case was filed on February 2, 2025, by ACC Deputy Director Kamalesh Mondal with the ACC’s Dhaka integrated district office-1.
According to the case statement, Asibur was found to have Tk 36.88 million in immovable assets and Tk 70.69 million in movable assets, bringing his total assets to Tk 107.57 million. He also reported family and other expenses of Tk 10.34 million.
After examining his declared income, liabilities and the sources of the assets and expenses, the ACC said it found Tk 98.9 million in assets inconsistent with his known sources of income.
The case statement further alleges that Shajahan Khan, while serving as shipping minister and a member of parliament, abused his position and used his influence and financial support to help his son acquire the assets.
