A Dhaka court on Monday rejected a revision petition seeking to implicate Road Transport Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam and eight others in the case filed over the murder of Deepto TV broadcast officer Tanjil Jahan Islam Tamim.

Dhaka 13th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Jahidul Islam passed the order after a hearing, said Bench Assistant Sohel Miah.

The nine had earlier been exempted from the case after the court accepted a charge sheet against 13 other accused. Tamim’s father and the case’s plaintiff had challenged the decision through the revision petition.

The other eight are Mohammad Mamun, Fazlur Rahman, Aryan, Nasrin Akter, Russel, Mahfuzur Rahman, Mozammel Haque Kabir and Imam Hossain.

Plaintiff’s lawyer Abdul Alim said they would challenge the order before a higher court.

Tamim’s father, Sultan Ahmed, filed the murder case with Hatirjheel Police Station on October 11, 2024, naming 16 people, including Rabiul Alam, Pleasant Properties Managing Director Mirza Abdul Latif and Department of Narcotics Control Deputy Director Mohammad Mamun, along with several unnamed accused.

According to the case documents, Tamim was attacked at his residence in Mahanagar Residential Area on October 10, 2024, following a dispute between landowners and developer Pleasant Properties over the distribution of flats. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

After investigating the case, PBI Dhaka Metropolitan North Sub-Inspector Zakaria Alam submitted a charge sheet against 13 people and a separate petition of guilt against a juvenile on December 10, 2025.

The charge sheeted accused include Pleasant Properties Managing Director Mirza Abdul Latif, CEO Faizul Ahmmed alias Sumon, Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Korban Ali, SM Ibrahim Hossain, Badhon, Gazi Zakir Hossain, Russel, Monir Hossain, Sharaj Uddin, Amirul Islam alias Amir and Sumon Mollick, among others.

The investigation found no “specific information” against nine people, including Rabiul Alam, and recommended that they be exempted from the case.

Tamim’s father filed a naraji petition on January 8, challenging the investigation findings, but Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Aowlad Hossain Muhammad Jonaid rejected it on March 3 and accepted the charge sheet, effectively exempting the nine from the case.
