A Dhaka court today imposed a travel ban on Siddique Nazmul Alam, former general secretary of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
In its application, the ACC said it was investigating allegations that Siddique Nazmul Alam had earned money through illegal means and attempted to legitimise the funds by transferring them to bank accounts operated in his own name and in the names of people associated with his interests.
The anti-graft body also alleged that he had acquired illegal wealth and committed money laundering.
The ACC further said that, according to reliable sources, he was attempting to leave the country and flee abroad.
“It is necessary to prevent the accused from travelling abroad in the interest of a proper investigation,” the application said.
