Water Resources Minister Md Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie has sought continued support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for sustainable water resources management and riverbank protection in Bangladesh.
He also said the government was keen to work with the ADB to strengthen quality economic cooperation.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with ADB Executive Director Satya Srinivas Lolla at the Ministry of Water Resources at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.
State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, MP, was also present.
Welcoming the ADB executive director to Bangladesh, Minister Annie expressed hope that the development partner would play a more effective role in promoting sustainable growth, strengthening disaster resilience, expanding regional cooperation and improving people’s quality of life.
State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad described the ADB as a trusted development partner of Bangladesh and urged the organisation to further expand cooperation in experience sharing on water resources management, education, technological assistance, professional skills development and research.
ADB Executive Director Satya Srinivas Lolla said the organisation was working to further strengthen its partnership with Bangladesh and formulate a new Country Partnership Strategy.
He said the ADB was also interested in working with Bangladesh on sustainable water resources management, riverbank protection and preventing river erosion.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Khondkar Azim Uddin, Additional Secretary Md Enamul Haque and senior ADB officials attended the meeting.
