More than 30 banks have temporarily suspended various technology-based banking services due to a system upgrade and migration of the Q-Cash network, potentially causing inconvenience to customers.
The services affected include ATM transactions, card payments, fund transfers, e-commerce transactions and Bangla QR payments, although the duration and types of suspended services vary from bank to bank.
The service disruption began at 9pm on October 4 and is scheduled to continue until noon on October 10 for services covered by the migration.
During this period, customers of some banks may be unable to withdraw cash from certain ATMs, make card payments or conduct transactions through POS, NPSB, e-commerce and QR services.
Banks said the migration is being carried out to improve the security and technological capabilities of their banking systems. Customers have been advised to use alternative payment channels where available.
Bangladesh Bank officials said the decision to suspend important services was taken by the banks on their own initiative and that the central bank had not been informed beforehand.
Governor Mostaqur Rahman reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the matter.
Some banks have assured customers that services will return to normal once the system migration is completed.
