DHAKA: Disabled graduates continued their sit-in protest for a second consecutive day outside the Department of Social Services in Agargaon, Dhaka, despite persistent rain.

The protesters spent the night at the site and continued their demonstration after rain began around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. They took shelter under plastic sheets and umbrellas in front of the department’s main gate.

The protesters have vowed to continue their movement until they receive a guarantee through an executive order from the prime minister ensuring employment for educated unemployed graduates with disabilities.

Alif Hossain, member secretary of the Disabled Graduates Council, said the protesters had remained at the site throughout the night without receiving any assistance.

“We stayed here all night. No one came to check on us. During the rain, we had only two plastic sheets to cover our heads, and almost everyone got wet. Still, we will not leave until our demands are met,” he said.

The protesters began their sit-in outside the main gate of the Department of Social Services at around 11 a.m. on Monday. A day earlier, on Sunday, they held a demonstration in front of the National Press Club under the banner of the Disabled Graduates Council.

Disabled graduates have been campaigning for years for employment opportunities through special arrangements. In November 2025, they staged a continuous 25-day sit-in at the Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus. They have also organized human chains and protest rallies at various times in support of their demands.
