Four new subjects will be introduced in the Class Six curriculum from 2027 to broaden students’ learning beyond traditional academic studies, Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milan said on Tuesday.
The new subjects will be joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture, he said.
The minister made the announcement while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the 53rd National Summer Sports Competition at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla in the morning.
Milan said students should be encouraged from an early age to develop creativity and practical skills alongside academic studies and participate in sports and cultural activities.
“The aim is to create opportunities for students to develop their creativity, technical skills, and physical and cultural abilities alongside their regular education,” he said.
He said the curriculum would be revised and updated as necessary from 2028. The government would also consider introducing additional textbooks based on students’ needs and the demands of the time, he added.
Speaking as a special guest, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin said the ongoing conflict in the Middle East had pushed up global prices of gas and fuel oil, with its impact also being felt in Bangladesh.
However, he said diesel prices in Bangladesh remained relatively lower than those in neighbouring and other surrounding countries.
The event was chaired by Cumilla Education Board Chairman Prof Md Ahsan Parvez.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon and Cumilla-10 lawmaker Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan also attended the event as special guests.
