NAOGAON: Four helmeted robbers allegedly beat two officials of an Islami Bank agent banking outlet and looted Tk34 lakh from them in Raninagar upazila of Naogaon on Tuesday.

The incident took place around noon near the tower area beside Parail Bridge on the Abadpukur-Adamdighi road.

The injured officials were identified as Md Nazmul, 32, and Russel, 28, of the Islami Bank agent branch in Abadpukur.

Firoz Hossain, proprietor of the Abadpukur Islami Bank agent branch, said the two officials had withdrawn Tk30 lakh from Islami Bank’s Santahar branch before noon, as they did on other working days.

They added another Tk4 lakh from their own funds and were returning to Abadpukur from Santahar by motorcycle with a total of Tk34 lakh.

When they reached the tower area near Parail Bridge around noon, four helmeted robbers riding two motorcycles blocked their way from the front and rear, Firoz said.

The robbers allegedly attacked the two bank officials with iron rods, leaving them seriously injured, before snatching the bag containing Tk34 lakh and fleeing the scene on their motorcycles.

Local people later rescued the injured officials and sent them to hospital for treatment.

Raninagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Zakaria Mondal said police were sent to the spot after receiving information about the incident.

“Police operations are under way to arrest those involved in the robbery and recover the looted money,” he said.
